Appearance should not be the only reason to choose a bird. Different species vary in noise level, social needs, size, lifespan and space requirements.
Learn before buying
- adult size;
- cage and safe flight-space requirements;
- diet and feeding routine;
- how social the species is;
- origin and available documents.
If you have children or other pets, plan a safe location for the cage before bringing the bird home. Keep it away from smoke, constant drafts and excessive noise. Do not allow a new bird to fly freely around the home until the room has been made safe.
